Organization-model design

Managing the waste activity of an Italian Province

Challenge

Arthur D. Little was engaged to design the new organization model of a large Italian utility, after the waste business units were transferred from four local firms, in order to manage the waste activity of an Italian Province.

Approach

Arthur D. Little performed three main activities.

  • Firstly, the as-is waste management model of the 4 firms of the perimeter, service contracts, specific business and staff employees, main waste and staff procedure were analyzed.
  • Secondly, opportunities to improve efficiency to overcome critical issues, design of potential organizational options highlighting strengths and weaknesses, optimal sizing were identified.
  • Lastly, the organizational structure, allocating FTE per staff and waste processes, was designed.

Value

The final recommendations were approved with full satisfaction from the client. Following this engagement, the client immediately awarded us with a follow-on project concerning best-practice benchmarking for its water operations.
